AMAZON has announced an above-inflation pay rise – to a minimum starting salary of more than £31,000 for full-time UK operations employees.

The online giant has sites in both Coalville and Castle Donington.

Frontline employees across the UK will see a pay rise of up to 5.6 per cent, taking minimum starting pay to £15.10 per hour from September 27.

• Annual salaries for frontline employees will now start at a minimum of £31,408 p/a.

• The pay increase represents a rise of 44% since 2022.

Amazon adds this represents ‘a significant investment in the company’s workforce’ and says the rise will benefit tens of thousands of frontline operations employees across the UK.

John Boumphrey, Amazon UK Country Manager, said: "Our frontline teams are the backbone of our business, and this pay increase reflects that.

“Starting salaries now exceed £31,000 a year, and we'll continue investing in our people because they deserve it.

"But pay is only part of what makes Amazon a great place to work.

“From comprehensive benefits to genuine opportunities to progress – we want every employee to feel valued from the moment they join.

“Whether someone is starting their first role or building a long-term career, there's a path for them here."

In addition to the pay increase, Amazon says it offers a comprehensive benefits package – including, from October 1, 10 per cent off eligible online groceries and everyday essentials on Amazon.co.uk, uncapped, covering fresh groceries and categories such as cleaning products, nappies and pet food.

Employees also get access to private medical insurance, life insurance, income protection, subsidised meals, employee discount including free Prime membership and a company pension plan from day one.

The company adds it also provides career development through its Career Choice programme, which funds 100 per cent of skills development through nationally recognised courses, up to £3,000 per year.

This support is available regardless of whether the training leads to career advancement at Amazon or elsewhere, with more than 30,000 employees having participated since the programme launched in the UK in 2014 – and a £800m global investment in the programme announced in June.

It comes after Amazon committed to invest £40 billion in the UK from 2025 to 2027 – the largest investment in the company's history outside the US – with more than £15 billion already delivered.
