Coalville's Castle Rock School celebrates strong Ofsted report after four years of  improvement

CASTLE Rock School in Coalville is celebrating after achieving an 'excellent' report in its latest Ofsted inspection - marking an impressive turnaround from an 'Inadequate' judgement four and a half years ago.

In the report, inspectors praised the school for its “rapid journey of improvement since it joined the Lionheart Educational Trust” in 2022, noting significant progress across leadership, teaching, behaviour and pupil attainment.

It adds that: "Castle Rock has undergone substantial cultural and academic improvement".

Ofsted highlighted that leaders 'clearly know the strengths of the school and take a highly strategic and effective approach to improvement' and have created 'a culture of high expectations' where 'staff are proud to work at the school'.

Under the new Ofsted inspection framework, Leadership and Governance was awarded ‘Strong Standard’. 


Associate Principal Roma Dhameja said: “Four years ago, the school’s leadership team committed to transforming Castle Rock School for our pupils, families and community. This inspection outcome recognises the relentless hard work of our staff, the Lionheart Trust’s unwavering support, and the determination of our pupils.

"We are incredibly proud of how far we have come. Our leadership team has been judged as strong, meaning we have the right team in place to take the school to the next level.”


CEO of Lionheart Educational Trust, Kath Kelly, added: “Castle Rock’s journey is a testament to what can be achieved through strong leadership, high expectations and a commitment to delivering an excellent education for all students. The school’s progress has been exceptional.”


One parent told inspectors: “It’s exciting being part of Castle Rock at the moment!”

Inspectors highlighted that leaders, 'act in the best interests of all pupils as they work towards the school’s ambitious vision for pupils to flourish' and 'identify the right priorities and work towards achieving the best possible outcomes and experiences for pupils.'

 The report notes that leaders’ focus on culture has “had a significant positive impact on pupils wanting to be at school” and that Castle Rock provides “a calm, orderly and positive environment” where pupils “conduct themselves sensibly” and relationships with staff are strong. 


Associate Principal Dhameja, added: “This report is a milestone, not a destination. We will continue striving to ensure every pupil at The Castle Rock School flourishes academically, socially and personally.”
